Hank 2.0
The name Hank was inspired by a good friend and dedicated league member when I ran a venue. Hank was the first of our league members to start dragging in carpenter hatchets for competition and over the space of 3-4 months brought in 4-5 variants. In my opinion, all of them suffered from the same significant flaw; a small-ish blade. Hank was loosing points simply for having a 3inch blade, so I created my take on a classic and named it in his honor.
The Hank 1.0 is one of my more popular models but still not perfect, the shallow belly lost points from the curvature when buried deep, and the bit length was short the full 4" due to shrinkage during casting. With the new IATF rules excluding polls in overall length measurements, I decided to update the design to address ALL the issues and thus the Hank 2.0.
It started by flattening out the bottom of the beard to prevent lost points due to penetration. Then I stretched the blade a bit to accommodate IATF rules. Combined this really jumped the weight up, so I had to make the transition from the eye to the blade more dramatic to lose some weight. Finally I applied a scaling factor to the mold in order to minimize the impact of shrinkage.
The Hank 2.0 is now a much more serious contender for competition!
By default, this axe comes with a single handle. Additional handles can be purchased here.
This axe should meet the specifications and regulations for small axe competitions of most organizations. Those regulations are changing all the time though so if you're unsure, feel free to reach out!
As an Infinity Axes special, this design incorporates a pinned handle design that allows for rapid replacement of handles. The socket measures 1.25 inches x 0.75 inches with 1/4 inch radius corners. You can choose to purchase additional handles with your axe head. Regardless of choice we will also include a high strength roll-pin that will require the use of a punch to insert / remove. The hole for the roll pins is 1/4inch in diameter, in our experience the roll pin, provides the best balance of strength and ease of replacement.
Please remember that when you place an order, you are getting in the production queue. Expect 3-8 weeks for delivery. Feel free to contact me directly for a better estimate on the timeline.
